Bomb threats caused lockdowns at two Broward schools. Deputies cuffed a 14-year-old
False bomb threats forced two Lauderdale Lakes schools to be put on lockdown Thursday morning. The Broward Sheriff’s Office says they’ve caught the 14-year-old responsible.
Around 9 a.m., Lauderdale Lakes Middle School administrators told deputies a bomb threat had been called in. Deputies quickly got to the school and began searching for the bomb.
Twenty minutes later, a second bomb threat was called into nearby Oriole Elementary School.
Both schools were evacuated, and deputies searched for the devices.
No bombs were found, and the sheriff’s office said, “the threats were determined to be unfounded.”
A 14-year-old girl, who is a student at Boyd Anderson High School, was arrested that night and charged with two counts of false reporting of a bomb threat. She was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and later released to her parent.
Deputies said she told them that she called the schools and made the threats. It is not clear what her motive was.
