With South Florida’s lofty housing prices, tell us about buying your first home

The pandemic exacerbated a longstanding housing crisis in South Florida, leaving on the sidelines many first-time home buyers.

Aspiring homeowners still face annual increases in median sale prices for houses and condominiums in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, according to the Miami Association of Realtors’ January home sales report. Many would-be buyers are left waiting, even those making six-figure incomes a year.

Often prospective buyers opt to rent or live with family, waiting for the market to cool. In a recent Herald poll, 132 out of 163 respondents said they plan to continue to wait, despite competition from out-of-state home buyers simmering down.

So, how are aspiring buyers moving towards their homeownership goals in South Florida, while playing the waiting game and how have those who finally bought a home in the past year managed to do it? That’s where we want readers to come in.

We want to connect with newcomers and Miami-Dade residents who can share how they plan to buy or managed to buy homes since early 2022.
