11 bedrooms, two kitchens and 360 views. Tech millionaires’ penthouse priced at $17M
David Centner is a Miami success story. A graduate of Miami Sunset High School and Wharton, Centner became a serial tech entrepreneur who sold his last company, Highway Toll Administration, for an undisclosed sum.
Now he and wife Leila are selling their oceanfront Miami Beach condo for $17 million as they move into a single-family home.
The 9,175-square-foot penthouse on the top floor of the 25-story Capobella at 5025 Collins Ave. has 11 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. The couple bought the building’s east and west penthouses in 2018 and combined them. As a result, the penthouse offers two kitchens, 10 parking spaces and 360-degree views. The unit was listed in mid-June.
Since their move from New York to Miami in 2018, the Centners have invested heavily in transformational philanthropy — establishing a culinary center at the Lotus House to train once-homeless women for hospitality and restaurant jobs, supporting activity-packed days for underprivileged kids through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and regularly donating to organizations including the Arsht Center.
Rena Kliot, broker and owner of Pulse International Realty, and Daniel Tzinker, broker and owner of Tzinker International Realty are listing the unit.
“The selling point is that it’s a boutique building. For many owners, it’s their second home so sometimes you feel that you have the entire building to yourself,” Kliot said.
The tower has 84 units, private elevators, doorman and security at the property entry.
The Centners bought the units for $12 million. The $5 million price bump covers the renovation and includes two ocean-side cabanas with kitchens and bathrooms that come with the penthouse.
Despite the pandemic sales slowdown and a growing buyer preference for single-family homes, Kliot expects the apartment to sell relatively quickly. Kliot said. “The draw to single-family homes compared to condos doesn’t concern me because the unit is as large as a house.” Athletes and CEOs are flying in from New Jersey and New York to see the listing, she said.
The unit, selling at $1,852 per square foot, is priced above the most recent comparable sale. The 7,630-square-foot unit at 7021 Fisher Island Drive sold for $12.2 million, or $1,598 per square foot, in May. “Fisher Island is its own market,” Kliot said.
