Coral Gables is getting its first senior living community with a memory-care center. And it’s steps from Merrick Park.

The city’s commission has approved a 350,000-square-foot senior living project proposed by Belmont Village Senior Living. The project includes a South Florida first: a Baptist Health healthy living center open to all local residents. Baptist and Houston-based Belmont are co-developing the project.

The final plan for 10-story Belmont Village Coral Gables, at 4111 Salzedo St., includes 232 private apartments for independent living, assisted living and memory care, plus 18,388 square feet of retail space.

Demand for senior living will likely increase after the pandemic, said Belmont Village Senior Living CEO Patricia Will by email. “In an immediate sense, demand declined because temporarily most senior living communities closed to new move-ins. Longer term, our customers are telling us that seniors who have been stranded at home are struggling [and] as a result, we expect to see a surge in demand.”

Units will range from a 315-square-foot studio with one bathroom to a 1,250-square-foot two bedroom, two bathroom unit. Rent will likely start at $6,000 per month for independent living and $6,500 per month for assisted living, and will include meals, scheduled transportation and recreational activities.

Amenities include multiple dining venues, a sports lounge, theater, gym, salon, music room, town hall center, a courtyard and a pool.

Baptist hired Corwil Architects to design the building; contractor Moss Construction Management is the builder.

The project is expected to break ground in the fall and be completed by 2022.

Belmont Village Senior Living has 31 senior living communities across the country and one in Mexico. The Coral Gables location will be its second in South Florida, after Fort Lauderdale.
