Miami grabs the movie spotlight

A new generation of gifted filmmakers — most of them born and raised in Miami — are telling stories about their city, their diverse cultures and their neighborhoods.


The days when big-budget Hollywood productions were filmed entirely in Miami ended after the funds for Florida’s lucrative state tax incentives ran out. Still, some movies and TV shows have shot a handful of scenes here, while the telenovela productions at Telemundo’s studios continue at full steam.
