Miami’s nightlife king opens a Cocowalk steakhouse. Yes, there will brunch
The man behind see-and-be-seen restaurants like Swan, Komodo, Planta and the Goodtime Hotel is about to debut a hangout in the revived Coconut Grove.
The Key Club, an upscale steak and seafood restaurant by nightclub owner and nascent restaurateur David Grutman, opens March 11 on a key corner spot in the renovated Cocowalk. It’s downstairs from Planta Queen, an Asian-influenced vegan and vegetarian restaurant that is a version of the one Grutman owns on South Beach. But he is not affiliated with the upstairs restaurant.
The massive 6,700 square-foot, 300-seat restaurant sits in a prime spot, at the busy corner of Grand Avenue and Main Highway, where it intends to serve a varied menu of safe, go-to dishes such as catch-of-the-day fish and steaks. Grutman’s restaurants like to go big, with bottle service and a nightlife “clubstaurant” feel. Dishes like Chips & Caviar, coconut lobster roll and a long list of cocktails with top-shelf alcohol and a 200-bottle wine list fit right in.
The Key Club is already planning to host weekend brunches — a favorite weekend feature for Grove restaurants — with live jazz. Given Grutman’s music connections (he opened the Miami Beach’s Goodtime Hotel with Pharrell Williams), expect good acts.
