La Ventanita podcast: Bad food takes with sports radio’s Marc Hochman

Marc Hochman is more than just South Florida’s funniest, most-prominent local sports radio host. He’s a food provocateur.

On his 560 and 790 AM drive-time sports talk show with former Miami Dolphin Channing Crowder, Hochman declares ice cream cake the worst kind of cake, yet affirms cookie cake as actual cake. (It’s not.) He despises the pickle spear that accompanies sandwiches, claims Cherry Coke is an “all-time banger” soda, declares Chicago deep dish the best kind of pizza, and his Mount Rushmores of everything from bands to food includes “mild” among the four best kinds of chicken wings.

On the March 10 episode of the Miami Herald food podcast, La Ventanita, co-host Amy Reyes and I invited Hochman to discuss, among other things, why Funky Buddha Brewery founder Ryan Sentz believes he has some of the worst food takes. We discussed the travesty of cutting a round pizza into a grid, why adults should never order sprinkles on ice cream and why even some of the top chefs are in awe of Houston’s and the Cheesecake Factory.
