This Turkish-Greek restaurant was delayed because of the COVID. It’s finally open
When the restaurant Doya was first announced in March 2020, it was to be a small-plates Mediterranean bar for gathering and sharing. It was no surprise the opening was delayed.
But finally, the owners decided, the time is right to gathering and share again.
Doya, a creation of the original Mandolin Aegean Bistro chef and a top hospitality partner, has opened in Wynwood just as the season begins in South Florida, more than a year and a half since it was first announced.
As originally designed, the restaurant is intended to be a pan-Mediterranean mezze bar, with hot and cold small plates that aim to reflect the cuisines of Greece and Turkey, primarily. That means warm dishes like kofte Turkish meatballs and Turkish pastrami hummus to saganaki melted cheese, adana spiced lamb kebobs and charcoal-grilled octopus.
Cold small plates include haydari Turkish yogurt dip, muhammara roasted red pepper spread, red lentil kofte and roasted beetroot. There are larger plates such as whole grilled branzino (naturally), lamb chops and a hearty Fisherman’s Stew for two.
Naturally, cocktails and imported wines round out the sharing experience. Prices range from $14-$16 for most smaller dishes, with larger plates going for $22-$34.
