Time is running out to buy Knaus cinnamon buns. Here’s when it closes for the season
Time is running out to stock up on South Florida’s favorite cinnamon rolls.
Knaus Berry Farm, which bakes the sticky, gooey buns during the farm’s growing season in the Redland from October to April, has announced it will be open for two more weekends. The farm closes for the season April 17.
“The end is near!” owner Thomas Blocher joked.
Fans of the farm make the trek south for cinnamon rolls, glazed pecan buns and fresh baked pies and breads as well as for preserves made from the farm’s you-pick strawberry fields. Usually customers can preorder items but not during the last week, Blocher wrote in an email.
“We don’t want to make promises we can’t keep as we are using up supplies,” Blocher wrote. “We can only guess how much of what we might need to finish the last week. The most popular items get the most attention (so we) try and keep them available throughout the week.”
The farm bounced back after what was an unpredictable year for everyone. It closed three weeks early in March of 2020 over concerns of the quickly spreading coronavirus. Customers usually make long lines on the weekends and Blocher didn’t want to encourage disease transmission.
When the farm reopened for the season on Oct. 27, it enforced social distancing rules in its line, required guest to wear masks and streamlined its open-air general store to encourage air flow.
“It was a good year considering we didn’t know what to expect with the COVID restrictions, but for the most part everyone played nice,” Blocher wrote. “I have to say we missed seeing the all smiles that the ugly masks covered!”
The cash-only store encourages customers to come by during the week, when lines are short. Cinnamon rolls cost $1.10 a piece, $5.50 a half dozen, $10.25 a dozen.
