If you live in Miami you might keep all your New Year’s resolutions — except this one
January has been going on for a few days now, people. How are those New Year’s resolutions working out for you?
Let us guess. Not great. You already spent money you didn’t have on a Peloton you haven’t plugged in yet, and you still aren’t sure where the expensive gym you recently joined is located. Also you ate a loaf of Cuban bread for breakfast. With extra butter.
So yeah. You’re failing. You know how we know? A new survey from WalletHub says Miami is not exactly on top of keeping its New Year’s resolutions. We’re not the worst of the 182 cities included (that would be Gulfport, Mississippi). But we’re only no. 28; we didn’t even make the top 20.
Still, there is some positive news: The survey, which looked at popular (and often broken) resolutions across 57 different metrics, reports that Miami is not bad at keeping some of its goals. We do OK in the areas of school and work resolutions, as well as sticking to relationship goals and repairing bad habits. If only we promised to improve our driving skills.
The survey also gives Miami a decent ranking at keeping health and fitness resolutions while at the same time reporting that it is one of the cities with the highest percentage of people not exercising. We cannot explain this anomaly. All we know is our gym is packed this month, but there will be no waiting for the Butt Blaster by March.
Here’s what Miami can’t seem to do: Meet its financial resolutions. This is why we keep seeing studies like the one that confirms you’re never leaving your parents’ house.
But this may not be our fault, WalletHub says. Your inability to stop spending is not solely because you couldn’t live without that JetSki. Miami has one of the lowest median incomes of cities in the survey (no. 173) which makes it hard to pull off the whole becoming financially solvent situation. Maybe that’s why there are so many mean people here. We’re salty because we’re broke.
But things could be worse. Hialeah is no. 163 overall at keeping resolutions in general and the worst rate of people not exercising. Time to put down that Kentucky Fried Chicken flan and go for a walk.
