A recalled salad’s labeling mistake can have ‘serious or life-threatening’ consequences
A labeling mistake on the bottom that’s contradicted by the packaging on the top caused 1,154 cases of Ready Pac Bistro Bowl Spinach Dijon Salads to be recalled from Florida, New York, North Carolina and 12 other states.
According to the recall notice by company Missa Bay, some of the salads got the bottom label for Spring Salad with Chicken. That wrong label includes an ingredient list that doesn’t include wheat or egg in the allergen section.
This error is mitigated by the top label clearly listing “hard boiled egg” and “crispy noodles” as salad ingredients. But if immediately checking an ingredients panel is almost a reflexive habit, it’s entirely possible someone could miss what’s blatantly on the packaging.
As the recall notice says, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs and/or wheat could run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.” And, no company wants to be associated with a food allergy major health issue, even one that might be mostly caused by the consumer overlooking something obvious.
So, Missa Bay recalled lot No. 255588007 with a use-by date of Feb. 18, 2020 in Florida, North Carolina, Missouri, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia.
