‘Protein superfood’ might have listeria. It got recalled in 8 states, Canada and the UK

A peanut butter with a label boasting of being a “protein superfood” has been recalled after third party testing found “potential listeria species” in a finished product, the company and FDA announced Friday.

Nuts ‘N More pulled 4,143 jars of its plain Peanut Spread from Canada, the United Kingdom, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Maine, Alabama as well as the company’s home state of Rhode Island. This covers lot No. PB91 with expiration date 03/04/2021 of what the label also calls “a clean ‘n indulgent peanut butter.”

Customers should return the peanut spread to the store where it was bought for a full refund. Those with questions can email the Nuts ‘N More at questionsl@nuts-n-more.com.

The CDC says listeria strikes about 1,600 people each year in the United States, killing about 260. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths. The worst effects hit senior citizens, very young children and people with damaged immune systems.
