Frozen stuffing recalled in 9 states on listeria worries. Blame the eggs
The fallout from the listeria outbreak traced to Almark Foods’ hard-boiled eggs has extended into January with Savannah Classics Foods recall of frozen stuffing across three brands.
Savannah Classics Classic Cornbread Dressing, Special Cornbread Dressing, Bread Stuffing, Morrison’s and Piccadilly’s Cornbread Dressings all contain frozen diced eggs bought from Almark Foods out of its Gainesville, Georgia facility. With the possibility that listeria came with the eggs, all the above products got pulled from shelves in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.
The two Savannah Classics Cornbread Dressings came in 7-pound packages while the Bread Stuffing came in 4.5-pound packages. The Morrison’s Cornbread Dressing came in 7-pound and 4-pound packages. Piccadilly’s Cornbread Dressing came in 2-pound packages.
Either throw these products out or return them to the store for a full refund. Those with questions can call Savannah Food Company at 731-925-1155, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
Listeria strikes 1,600 Americans each year, killing about 250, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In addition to fever headaches, stomachaches and diarrhea, it can cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant women. The most vulnerable to listeria’s worst effects are children under 5, senior citizens and those with damaged immune systems.
