Egg products recalled from Publix, Walmart, Costco, other chains in listeria outbreak
Egg products sold at Walmart, Publix, Kroger and several other supermarkets were pulled from shelves this week in response to the listeria outbreak connected to hard-boiled egg products.
Behind the pulling of brands you know (Eggland’s Best) from stores you know (Costco, 7-Eleven, Fresh Market, Trader Joe’s in addition to the three above) is the Gainesville, Georgia, facility of egg supplier Almark Foods. The hard-boiled egg products produced there are the lead suspects in a listeria outbreak that’s sickened seven in five states, hospitalized five and killed one person.
Monday, Almark expanded its recall of hard-boiled egg products, regular and organic, down to the retail level with best by dates through March 2, 2020. The best by date code on recalled products made in the Gainesville, Georgia, facility will start with the letter G. Plant production has been shut down.

Listeria strikes 1,600 Americans each year, killing 250. In addition to fever headaches, stomachaches and diarrhea, it can cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant women. The most vulnerable to listeria’s worst effects are children under 5, senior citizens and those with damaged immune systems.
