Watch out, Miami: The stars of ‘Bad Boys’ were just made honorary cops
The original “Bad Boys,” Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated “Bad Boys for Life.”
Twenty-five years after the buddy flick set in Miami first hit theaters, the partners reunited in the Magic City on Sunday.
First stop: Pitbull’s SLAM! charter school, to receive the key to the city from Mayor Francis Suarez. And Jan. 12 was proclaimed Bad Boys For Life Day in the city of Miami. Hundreds of students from the school as well as Mr. 305 himself and director Adil El Arbi cheered from the sidelines.
“That opens up every door on Calle Ocho, just so you know,” cracked master of ceremonies DJ Laz.
Smith, 51, and Lawrence, 54, were also presented with “badges,” from Miami Chief of Police Jorge Colina, and made honorary cops.
Smith looked ecstatic by the honors, then broke out into an impromptu version of the “Bad Boys” theme song.
“They want to know when they can report to duty,” Colina later joked on Twitter, alongside a pic.
A few hours later, the longtime costars walked the red carpet at Regal South Beach Theater for the “Bad Boys” premiere with DJ Khaled, who has a cameo and does the soundtrack for the film, out this Friday.
The album, featuring cameos by Meek Mill, Rick Ross and Black Eyed Peas, is out the same day.
