‘Be prepared:’ An 11-year-old wrote she would kill ‘kids and teachers,’ cops say
An 11-year-old girl was arrested Thursday after writing a note that threatened to kill students and teachers, Davie police said.
An arrest report identified the girl as Jasmine Powell, a sixth grader at Nova Middle School in Davie. The arrest comes just one day after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, killing 17 people and wounding more than a dozen others.
“I will bring a gun to school to kill all of you ugly ass kids and teachers bitch. I will bring the gun Feb. 16, 18. Be prepared bitch!” the note read.
Police say school surveillance shows the Hollywood girl slipping the handwritten note under the assistant principal’s door Thursday morning.
Powell later gave police a written statement that said a fellow classmate told her to “write the letter.”
“I placed a note under the door and I got caught on tape,” Powell wrote. A classmate threatened to have her attacked over a romantic interest.
“So to avoid getting in a fight ..., I put the letter under the door,” Powell wrote.
Powell was sent to Miami-Dade County’s Juvenile Assessment Center, records show.
