Bobrovsky gets the shutout

Sergei Bobrovsky recorded his second shutout of the postseason, stopping all 23 shots he faced from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday as the Florida Panthers won 2-0 in Game 4 of their second-round series at Amerant Bank Arena.

With the win, Florida has evened the best-of-7 series at 2-2 after dropping the first two games of the set. Game 5 is at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.

Evan Rodrigues is hurt

Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues is down on the ice after taking a high hit from Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Rodrigues went straight to the room.

Ekman-Larsson was initially assessed a five-minute major penalty, but it was reduced to a two-minute minor for interference.

15:09 left in regulation as Florida heads to the power play.

A big penalty kill — and heavy minutes for four players

The Panthers killed off their first penalty of the game, which came five minutes into the second period.

Defensemen Gustav Forsling and Aaron Ekblad were on the ice for the entire two minutes, while forwards Brad Marchand and Anton Lundell had to play the final 1:45 because Toronto kept Florida hemmed in its defensive zone.

Even with that, Toronto managed just one shot on goal.

First period thoughts

That was perhaps as well played a period for the Panthers as they have had all series. Having four power plays helps, of course, but Florida had a 15-4 edge in shots on goal and limited Toronto to just nine shot attempts in the frame.

Keep that energy up, and things should be looking good for the home team.

Panthers finally get an insurance goal

It took until 12 minutes into the third period, but the Panthers finally got an insurance goal when Sam Bennett dangled the puck in front of the Toronto net before finally beating Joseph Woll.

It’s Bennett’s fifth of the playoffs.

2-0 Florida with 7:50 to go.

Some context on Verhaeghe

Carter Verhaeghe now has 30 career postseason goals. He is one of 36 active players to have at least that many.

Since the 2021 playoffs, when Verhaeghe joined the Panthers, he is one of just five active players with 30 playoff goals. Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon, Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid are the others.

Fourth time’s the charm on the power play

It took until Florida’s fourth — yes, fourth — power play of the first period, but the Panthers are finally on the board.

Carter Verhaeghe with the strike for his fourth goal of the postseason and second in as many games.

1-0 Panthers with 4:15 left in the first period.

Still scoreless but Florida the aggressor early

Through 12 minutes, Florida has a 9-3 edge in shots on goal, 9-1 advantage in scoring chances and 20-6 lead in shot attempts.

A lot of the game has been played in Florida’s offensive zone. The Panthers just need to find a way to get shots past Joseph Woll, who has been solid so far.

Early power play chance comes up empty

The Panthers went on the power play 2:04 into regulation after a Max Domi high stick. Florida had some looks and got two shots on goal against Joseph Woll but came up empty on the early man advantage.

The Panthers appear to be rolling with the same lineup as Friday based on their rushes in warmups.
