Aleksander Barkov ties Panthers record for career assists, his last major mark to achieve
Aleksander Barkov’s domination of the Florida Panthers’ record book is now all but complete.
With three assists on Friday against the New York Rangers, Barkov tied Jonathan Huberdeau’s franchise record of 415 assists.
The record-tying assist came with 2:53 left in the second period, when Sam Reinhart tipped in Barkov’s shot from the point on the power play. Barkov also had the primary assist on each of Florida’s first two goals of the game — by Evan Rodrigues in the first period and Reinhart in the second.
It’s the last major franchise milestone Barkov was chasing. He already holds the Panthers’ career marks for games played, goals, points, power-play points, power-play goals and game-winning goals.
Barkov has a team-leading 27 assists this season through 32 games played, putting him on pace for a career-high 67 assists on the season (his current career-high is 61 during the 2018-19 season).
Friday marked the 15th time Barkov has logged at least three assists in a game in his career. He has done so three times this season — also Wednesday at the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nov. 27 at the Ottawa Senators in addition to Friday.
