Dolphins vs. Jets live updates: Dolphins have a big lead entering second half
The Miami Dolphins will look to extend their win streak to four on Sunday against the New York Jets.
Dolphins tailback De’Von Achane injured his ribs in the second quarter at the conclusion of a 29-yard run when Jets cornerback Isaiah Johnson dragged him down by twisting his left leg.
Achane limped into the locker room before halftime and is questionable to return. He likely won’t play another snap because the Dolphins were leading 24-7 at the half.
Achane, who came into the season already over 1,000 rushing yards, left the game having gained 92 rushing yards and scoring a rushing touchdown on nine carries, and caught one pass, gaining 13 yards.
Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright are the backups available to finish the game.....
Jets starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor left Sunday’s game because of a groin injury that flared up on him in the first quarter and was replaced by Brady Cook, a rookie who has spent this season on the Jets’ practice squad.
Justin Fields, who started the majority of New York’s games this season, has been sidelined by a knee injury for the past month and wasn’t healthy enough to be on the active roster despite participating in one practice during the week.
By the time Cook entered the game the Dolphins were up 21-0.
Caleb Johnson, who missed a key tackle on Isaiah Williams’ 78-yard punt return, which produced the Jets’ first touchdown, left the game with a shoulder injury. Johnson, a fifth-year linebacker who joined the team a month ago, primarily contributes on special teams.
INACTIVES
Concerns about center Aaron Brewer’s numerous injuries led to the surprising elevation of a Miami Dolphins practice squad player, and led to Kendall Lamm being inactive for the second time this season.
Reserve Kion Smith, who was demoted from the 53-man roster to the practice squad last week, so Austin Jackson could return to the starting lineup, was made active for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. That led to Lamm, the top backup offensive tackle, who primarily plays left tackle throughout his career, was made inactive.
Smith has experience playing both guard and tackle for the Dolphins and those skills will be needed is Brewer suffers a setback with the ankle, neck and knee injury he’s been nursing for the past couple of weeks. Brewer prides himself on his toughness, which has led to him playing 73 straight NFL games, but expect the Dolphins to pull him if he struggles, or suffers a setback.
Also active for Sunday’s game is safety Elijah Campbell, the team’s top special teams player, and nose tackle Benito Jones, who has been nursing a troublesome ankle injury.
Campbell suffered an ankle injury earlier this week and was listed as questionable headed into the game.
Zach Wilson will serve as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup despite coming down with an illness on Saturday. That means the Jets former first-round pick, and starting quarterback, will potentially play against his former team.
Inactive for Sunday’s game defensive tackle Matthew Butler, who has been unseated by rookie defensive tackle Zeek Biggers, receiver Tahj Washington, linebacker Andre Carter II, cornerback A.J. Grenn III, and rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers, who will serve as the emergency third quarterback, which means he can only enter the game if Tagovailoa and Wilson suffer an injury that prevents them from returning to the game.
