Streak stopped

After going 13 for 13 over the season’s first 10 games, the Dolphins failed to score a touchdown in a goal-to-go situation.

The third quarter drive started promisingly enough, with completions of 31 yards to Jaylen Waddle and 14 yards to Greg Dulcich.

But on a 3rd and goal from the 2, Julian Hill failed to make the block and Gordon was stuffed for a one-yard loss. Tagovailoa then threw incomplete on fourth down, leaving Washington ahead 13-6 with 6:06 left in the third.

Gordon has converted eight rushing attempts on 3rd and 1 or 2 or 4th and 1 or 2. This was only his second failure in that situation.

Washington scores first TD

The Commanders scored the game’s first touchdown on their first possession of the second half. The six play, 59 yard drive ended with a 20-yard TD pass from Marcus Mariota to Deebo Samuel, giving Washington a 13-6 lead. It took only 3:39.

Robinson usage

Chop Robinson continues to be used primarily in pass rushing situations instead of serving as a tradition 3-4 edge defender. That explains why Matt Judon, a 10-year veteran, remained the starter put opposite Bradley Chubb against the Washington Commanders.

The Dolphins have been hesitant to use the team’s 2024 first-round pick on running downs throughout his first two seasons because of his struggles setting the edge. Robinson has only started one of the 27 NFL games he’s played.

Dolphins linebacker Jordan Colbert suffered a stringer to his beck in the second quarter of Sunday’s game and will not return. Colbert, a safety the Dolphins moved to inside linebacker two months ago, was primarily used on special teams this season.

Nose tackle injured

Defensive tackle Benito Jones went down with an ankle injury on the Commanders’ opening drive.

Jones returned to the field late into the second quarter.

A pair of field goals by both teams has the game tied at three.

INACTIVES

Rasul Douglas practiced all week, but the foot injury he suffered two weeks ago will keep the Miami Dolphins cornerback sidelined for the second straight game.

Douglas’ absence opens the door for JuJu Brents, one of the top standouts in last week’s Miami’s 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills, to start his second straight game for his new franchise.

It’s also possible that Chop Robinson will make his second ever NFL start in Sunday’s International game against the Washington Commanders, which will be played in Madrid, Spain.

Robinson, who missed last Sunday’s game because of a concussion he suffered in Miami’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago, has contributed 8 tackles and one sack in the nine games he’s played this season.

The Dolphins didn’t call up any of the team’s practice squad edge rushers (Quinton Bell, Derrick McClendon), and didn’t activate Andre Carter II, an outside linebacker Miami claimed off the Detroit Lions’ practice squad a couple weeks ago. That leaves Bradley Chubb, whose status for Sunday’s game was questionable because of a foot injury he suffered in Friday’s practice, Matt Judon, Robinson and Cameron Goode as the only edge rushers active for Sunday’s game.

Also inactive was receiver and return specialist Dee Eskridge, who continues rehabbing a shoulder injury.
