Dolphins bring in under-radar cornerbacks. And a look at some of Miami’s 30 visitors

The Dolphins, who are shopping cornerback Jalen Ramsey and are desperate for help at the position, flew in several draft-eligible cornerbacks in the days before Thursday’s deadline for on-site prospect visits, sources said.

Among them: Louisville’s Quincy Riley, who had seven interceptions in three seasons (and 18 games) for Middle Tennessee and then seven interceptions in three seasons at Louisville.

Also summoned to team headquarters, per a source: Southern Cal 6-2 cornerback Jacobe Covington, who had 61 tackles, including two for loss (with a sack), one interception and one forced fumble while appearing in 42 games with 14 starts, covering two years at Washington and three at USC.

Riley, the more highly regarded of the two prospects, played 37 games for the Cardinals, including 10 last season, when he had 33 tackles, two interceptions and 13 passes defended (which led the Atlantic Coast Conference).

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein predicts the 5-11 Riley will be drafted in the third or fourth round and says “Riley’s performance took a dip in 2024, but his tape shows the same strengths and weaknesses from the year prior.

“The ball production looks nice, but his indecisiveness and lack of awareness cause inconsistencies from zone and off-man coverage. He’s competitive with good make-up speed and the athleticism to improve his coverage squeeze if he takes the coaching.

“Riley needs to become more reliable in run support for teams to trust him as a nickel defender. The sixth-year senior clearly has play traits that work in his favor, but he must learn to play with quicker eyes and better focus to become more than a quality backup with inside/outside potential.”

NFL teams can bring in as many as 30 non-local players to their headquarters for medical tests and meetings. The Dolphins historically have drafted some players who came in for ‘30’ visits and some players who did not.

Thirteen of the Dolphins’ 30 visits have been confirmed; here are our links to our stories on the other 11:
