Dolphins trade their first fifth-round pick to the 49ers and get a running back in return

The Miami Dolphins sent the 153rd pick in the draft, the first of three fifth-round picks for Miami, to the San Francisco 49ers, as first reported by ESPN.

The return? Running back Matt Breida.

The Dolphins will pair Breida, who rushed for 623 yards and a touchdown in 2019, with Jordan Howard to make up a vastly improved running back group.

It serves as possibly the best option to grab a running back outside of going the post-draft free agency route. All of the top running backs were gone by the end of the fourth round.

Breida, a Bradenton native, was an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern in 2017 and immediately made an impact for San Francisco. In three NFL seasons, Breida has rushed for 1,902 yards on 381 carries (5 yards/rush average) with six touchdowns. He has also caught 67 passes for 561 yards.
