Dwyane Wade set to produce docuseries that follows children of famous athletes
Count television as another area where Dwyane Wade intends to dominate.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, Walmart’s digital video platform Vudu has ordered a new docuseries from media company Whistle that will be executively produced by the Heat legend’s 59th & Prairie Entertainment.
The upcoming project’s release date was not clear.
Entitled “Legacy,” the eight-episode series will follow the lives of famous athletes’ children. Among those participating are Wade’s eldest son, Zaire, NFL star Randall Cunningham’s daughter, Vashti, and Evander Holyfield’s two sons, Evan and Elijah. More subjects will be named soon, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m proud to executive produce ‘Legacy’ and bring my son’s unique athletic journey to other aspiring young athletes,” Wade said in a statement published in the Hollywood Reporter. “I hope this docuseries leaves viewers feeling inspired through showing the hard work and dedication needed to turn your dreams into a reality.”
“Legacy” will focus on a specific period of each young athlete’s life. Zaire’s senior season at Sierra Canyon will be featured as well as Vashti’s training for the 2020 Olympics. The series will also track Evan as he follows in his father’s footsteps to become a professional boxer and Elijah who plays the running back for the Carolina Panthers.
It’s unclear whether this project is linked to the three-time NBA champion’s developmental deal with Warner Media. In October, the Hollywood Reporter revealed Wade reached “a comprehensive, multiyear agreement” with the media company that will allow him “to create a number of new projects” under his production banner 59th & Prairie Entertainment.
