Marlins announce manager Clayton McCullough’s coaching staff. What to know
The Miami Marlins on Friday announced new manager Clayton McCullough’s 11-person coaching staff, a group that includes 10 newcomers to the organization.
The only holdover from last season: Brandon Mann, who served as a pitching strategist for the Marlins last season after spending two years working with Driveline Baseball and is now the team’s bullpen coach.
The rest of the staff is as follows:
▪ Bench coach Carson Vitale, who spent the past seven years with the Seattle Mariners including the past five as their Major League field coordinator.
▪ Hitting coach Pedro Guerrero, who spent the past seven seasons as an assistant hitting coach for the San Francisco Giants (2022-24) and Philadelphia Phillies (2018-21).
▪ Pitching coach Daniel Moskos, who was previously the assistant pitching coach with the Chicago Cubs from 2022 to 2024.
▪ Field coordinator Aaron Leanhardt, who last season was an analyst for the New York Yankees.
▪ First base/infield defense/baserunning coach Tyler Smarslok, who was previously part of the Minnesota Twins organization for the past five years — including the past four years on the staff of the Twins’ Triple A affiliate.
▪ Third base coach Blake Lalli, who has served as a minor-league manager in the Arizona Diamondbacks system the past six years.
▪ Catching coach/assistant catching director/bullpen catcher Joe Singley, who was the Cincinnati Reds’ bullpen catcher the past two years.
▪ Assistant hitting coach Derek Shomon, who was the Twins’ assistant hitting coach the past two seasons.
▪ Assistant pitching coach and assistant pitching director Alon Leichman, who held the same role with the Reds the past two seasons and before that spent six years in the Mariners’ player development system.
▪ Performance and data integration strategist Bryson Nakamura, who was the director and head sports scientist at Stanford Baseball Science Core from 2021-24 and also has experience of over six years in various positions with the Brewers.
