The Miami Marlins on Friday announced several updates for pitchers who are currently dealing with or recovering from injuries with Opening Day on March 28 less than two weeks away.

The notables:

Right-handed pitcher Eury Perez (nail on right middle finger) will not throw for at least three days, meaning the earliest he would throw again is Monday. Perez, who has dealt with a broken nail since his second spring start on March 2, has only thrown eight innings through four spring starts. It’s looking tough for him to be built up to the point where he will be ready to start the season.

Right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera (right shoulder impingement) played light catch Friday, showing slight progress after he was removed from his scheduled start Sunday because of what was originally reported as shoulder tightness. His status to start the season is still up in the air.

Left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett (left shoulder soreness) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Sunday, marking the first time he will face live hitters during spring training. Garrett has felt better as of late but is behind on his throwing program, making it highly unlikely he’ll be ready for the start of the season.

Right-handed pitcher Calvin Faucher (right shoulder) threw a bullpen on Friday.

Right-handed pitcher JT Chargois (neck spasms) has not resumed throwing.

Skip Schumaker away from the team

The Marlins on Friday announced that manager Skip Schumaker is away from the team for personal reasons. Bench coach Luis “Pipe” Urueta is serving as manager in Schumaker’s absence.

While no specific timeline for Schumaker’s return has been given, he is expected to be away for at least a couple days.
