As they continue to figure out shortstop, Marlins reportedly extend offer to Tim Anderson
Could Tim Anderson be the Miami Marlins’ answer at shortstop in 2024?
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported on Friday that the Marlins made an offer to Anderson, who is a free agent.
Anderson, 30, is a two-time All-Star, won the American League batting title in 2019 and was a Silver Slugger in 2020.
But he had a down season in 2023, hitting just .245 (his worst in a season since 2018), with a career-low .582 on-base-plus-slugging mark and just one home run and 25 RBI in 123 games played.
The Miami Herald reported during the offseason that the Marlins are still exploring the market to improve at the shortstop position, although new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix said in January he would feel “pretty comfortable” with the group he has in Jon Berti, Brujan, Xavier Edwards and prospect Jacob Amaya if they can’t add from outside the organization.
The team has also expressed interest in free agents Amed Rosario and Gio Urshela.
