Marlins’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. has surgery to repair turf toe, will spend offseason rehabbing
Miami Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a turf toe injury in his right foot that he dealt with for most of the season.
“Surgery was successful,” Chisholm wrote in an Instagram story post Tuesday afternoon that included a photo of his right foot in protective footwear.
Chisholm sustained the injury in the eighth inning of the Marlins’ 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on May 13, when he collided with the wall in left-center field at loanDepot park trying to make an inning-ending play. Chisholm missed 39 games as a result of the injury, the first of two injured list stints Chisholm had last season. He also missed almost all of July with an oblique injury.
Despite only playing in 97 games last season, Chisholm still hit 19 home runs and recorded a team-high 22 stolen bases while hitting .250 with a .761 on-base-plus-slugging mark, 51 RBI and 50 runs scored.
This is the second consecutive offseason Chisholm will spend rehabbing. He underwent right knee meniscus surgery last September after playing through the injury in 2022. He was limited to just 60 games that year, with his season ending due to a lower back strain.
Chisholm, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason, should be ready for spring training in February.
