Once again, the Miami Marlins’ bats remained quiet against the Milwaukee Brewers.

And now, for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Marlins have lost back-to-back games.

The final score from American Family Field on Tuesday night: Brewers 3, Marlins 1.

Miami falls to 74-71 on the season. The Brewers improve to 81-63.

Here are three takeaways from the game.

What to make of Edward Cabrera

In his second appearance following a month-long stint in the minor leagues, Cabrera showed both the tantalizing skill that gives the organization hope he can be a top-end pitcher and the inconsistencies that show how much he still has to grow.

Over 4 2/3 innings following a scoreless first inning from opener JT Chargois, Cabrera gave up just one hit — a go-ahead solo home run to Josh Donaldson — and struck out five, with six of nine balls in play against him being either groundballs or popouts.

But then there were the walks.

Cabrera issued six walks, the fourth time in 19 appearances in the big leagues this season he has given up at least six walks.

He walked four of the first five batters he faced to force in a run in the second inning and then issued back-to-back walks with two outs in the sixth to end his night.

Luis Arraez homers ... and then offense goes quiet

After getting shut out on Monday against the Brewers’ Brandon Woodruff, Miami’s offense got off to a much better start Tuesday.

Luis Arraez sent the third pitch he saw from Freddy Peralta a projected 391 feet to right field for a leadoff home run, his seventh home run of the season.

That’s where the highlights ended.

Miami logged just one more hit against Peralta, a second-inning single from Xavier Edwards. Peralta struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk over 6 1/3 innings.

The Marlins’ only other baserunner on the night was Jon Berti, who drew a walk against Abner Uribe with two outs in the eighth inning.

Where things stand in the playoff race

With both the Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks losing on Tuesday, Miami remains one-and-a-half games behind Arizona (76-70) for the National League’s third and final wild card spot.

Miami has 17 regular-season games left, including five with the Brewers (two more in this road series and three at home), six with the New York Mets (three at home, three on the road), three at home against the Atlanta Braves and three on the road with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
