Podcast: Eury Perez returns, but Miami Marlins have bigger problems to figure out
The good news for the Miami Marlins: 20-year-old right-handed pitcher phenom Eury Perez is back on the roster to help the team with its hopeful playoff push.
The bad news for the Miami Marlins: The playoff push might not be a thing much longer if they don’t get out of their rut.
Even with Perez on the mound Monday after a month-long hiatus, the Marlins still lost their series opener to the Cincinnati Reds, their fifth consecutive defeat and their 17th loss in 22 games since the All-Star Break. Miami is now one-and-a-half games out of the playoff picture and just two games over .500.
On the latest episode of Fish Bytes, Miami Herald Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez discuss Perez’s return, the Marlins’ continued slide and how much longer they can afford to go through this struggle before their postseason chances are gone.
