Podcast: The losing streak’s over, but are Marlins back? Plus Rays series and trade deadline
The Miami Marlins’ losing streak is over.
The concerns that came up during that stretch of eight losses in eight games coming out of the All-Star Break? Not so much.
So yes, Miami got a desperately needed win with a 3-2, 10-inning, walk-off victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday — the team’s first since play resumed — but there are still lingering questions, primarily around the team’s clutch hitting and bullpen. There’s also the matter of finding out whether that one win is the start of a resurgence or just a blip on the radar as the Marlins continue to compete for a playoff spot with just over two months left in the season.
And the trade deadline just so happens to be a week away, too.
So where do the Marlins really stand at this point? Miami Herald Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez discuss in the latest episode of Fish Bytes. They also dive into the upcoming series with the Tampa Bay Rays that begins on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, the Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline and the Marlins’ plans to celebrate Miguel Cabrera when the Detroit Tigers come to town this weekend.
