Miami Marlins

Podcast: What’s more telling — how far Marlins have come or how far they are from Braves?

The Miami Marlins’ final road trip before the All-Star Break really epitomized their season to this point.

It started with a series sweep against a Boston Red Sox team hovering around .500. It ended with Miami then getting swept itself by arguably the best team in baseball in the Atlanta Braves, a team that has had the Marlins’ number for quite some time now.

In fact, consider this: The Marlins are 1-9 in 10 games against the Braves this season and 48-28 in all of their other games this season.

In Year 1 under manager Skip Schumaker, the Marlins have made significant strides. They are winning the series they should be winning and at a minimum are being competitive for the most part against teams around their level of talent.

But they are still so far behind when it comes to competing against the Braves.

That brings up the question: Which is more telling about the Marlins — that they have established themselves in the playoff race heading into the final week before the All-Star Break or that they are still seemingly no match for the upper echelon of the league?

Miami Herald beat writer Jordan McPherson dives into both sides of the argument on the latest episode of Fish Bytes. Afterward, he provides an update on Jazz Chisholm Jr. and looks ahead to what’s next on the schedule, including the All-Star Game and the MLB Draft.
