Podcast: Talking Jazz’s return, Marlins’ first half with El Extrabase’s Daniel Alvarez

The Miami Marlins are nearing the halfway mark of the season and they continue to remain one of the best stories in MLB this season. They enter their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at 45-34, the third-best mark in the National League.

So with the midway point of the regular season practically upon us, we invited El Extrabase’s Daniel Alvarez, one of the few regulars on the Marlins beat, to join Miami Herald beat writer Jordan McPherson on the latest episode of Fish Bytes.

The episode starts with news that was announced just before recording that Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was being activated off the injured list ahead of the Red Sox series. After McPherson and Alvarez explain what Chisholm’s return means to the club, they dove into a slew of other topics, including:

What each thought was a defining factor in the team’s success so far this season.

Luis Arraez’s continued push to become the first player with a .400 batting average since Ted Williams in 1941.

The remarkable start to 20-year-old Eury Perez’s MLB career and the difficult decision that the Marlins front office will face regarding how they handle him moving forward.

And to wrap up the episode, Alvarez talks about what it has been like to chronicle the final two seasons of Miguel Cabrera’s legendary career.
