Hitting for cycle a highlight of big week for Miami Marlins prospect Cody Morissette
Miami Marlins infielder prospect Cody Morissette started last week by hitting for the cycle with the Double A Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
It wouldn’t be his last big outing of the week.
Morissette, Miami’s No. 20 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, went a combined 8 for 24 last week for the Blue Wahoos, hitting two home runs, one double and one triple with six RBI and five runs scored over his six games played.
It’s the continuation of an impressive June for the 23-year-old, who underwent right ankle reconstruction surgery at the end of last season and missed all of spring training this year.
Morissette is hitting .333 with a 1.007 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, three home runs, three doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and eight runs scored through 13 games played in June. He has at least one hit in 10 of those 13 games, including three multi-hit outings.
He is the third player in the Marlins organization to hit for a cycle this season. Second baseman Luis Arraez became the first player to do it with the Marlins on April 11. Victor Mesa Jr. then accomplished the feat a week later with Pensacola.
Morissette was Miami’s second-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Boston College. He has primarily played second and third base in the minor leagues since being drafted.
“After standing out with his bat-to-ball skills in college, Morissette has made changes to his left-handed swing to help him drive the ball more consistently as a pro. Instead of focusing on making line-drive contact and using the entire field, he has concentrated on launching balls to his pull side since joining the Marlins,” reads his scouting report from MLB Pipeline.
