Podcast: Marlins end road trip on high note. Can they sustain it? Plus a Eury Perez interview
The 10-game, three-city road trip started out rough, with the Miami Marlins winning just two of their first seven games.
It ended on a high note, with the Marlins sweeping the Los Angeles Angels to salvage the trip and go 5-5 overall.
The weekend in Anaheim was a best-case scenario and allowed the Marlins to keep a winning record — 28-26, which puts them in second place in the National League East — heading into a nine-game homestand that starts Tuesday with Miami hosting the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals. Those three teams are a combined 52-112 (.317 win percentage).
Can the Marlins sustain what they did in Anaheim and take advantage of this week-and-a-half at loanDepot park?
Jordan McPherson, the Miami Herald’s Marlins beat writer, breaks down what went right for the Marlins as the road trip came to an end and what still needs to be improved.
McPherson also touches on a few individual highlights from the trip, including Jorge Soler’s home run surge, Jonathan Davis’ big first statement and Eury Perez’s continued development.
