Not the start the Miami Marlins were looking for on this 10-game, three-city road trip.

The Marlins have dropped three of four games so far, losing two of three to the San Francisco Giants over the weekend and then losing the series opener against the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

All four games, however, have followed a common theme with this team over the past two weeks: They have been close.

All four games on this trip, each of Miami’s last nine games overall and 10 of their last 11 dating back to their May 10 series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix have been decided by two runs or fewer.

The Marlins have managed to stay competitive, which is good — especially considering the state of the roster.

But are the Marlins playing with fire here? And is this sustainable?

Jordan McPherson, the Miami Herald’s Marlins beat writer, gives his thoughts in the latest episode of Fish Bytes.
