Podcast: Marlins showing they’re competitive ... except against the Mets and Braves
This much is true: The Miami Marlins have a winning record nearly a month into the season and have won their share of key series early.
This much is also true: The Miami Marlins have failed to be competitive against two of the main teams they need to find ways to be competitive against.
The splits: 2-6 against the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, including dropping both series so far against the Mets and being drubbed 11-0 and no-hit for seven-plus innings by the Braves on Monday in their first game of the season against the five-time defending NL East champions; 10-5 against everyone else, winning series against the Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Guardians.
The question: Is Miami more like the team that is getting dominated by two powerhouses or the team that is hanging with the rest of the pack on its schedule, a group that primarily has consisted of teams with winning records and/or teams that were in the playoffs last year?
Jordan McPherson, the Miami Herald’s Marlins beat writer, dives into the topic on the latest episode of Fish Bytes.
McPherson also touches base on the state of the Marlins’ rotation, injury updates and a weekly recap of what’s going on in the minor leagues to round out the episode.
