Technically, only five Miami Marlins players were required to be in Jupiter on Monday.

A lot more chose to show up.

Most of the team’s key players were on the back fields at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex when the first official spring training workout for pitchers and catchers competing in the World Baseball Classic took place.

This included nearly a dozen position players — Jazz Chisholm Jr., Joey Wendle, Garrett Cooper, Jon Berti, Jorge Soler, Avisail Garcia, Jacob Stallings and Nick Fortes among them — and just about every pitcher who has a shot at making the Opening Day roster. The first formal workout for all pitchers and catchers is on Thursday, while the first full-squad workout is Feb. 21.

Baseball is back, folks.

On the latest episode of Fish Bytes, Jordan McPherson breaks down the scene from the 90-minute workout. He also provides updates on news that happened over the weekend — including another trade for another reliever and the return of teal jerseys for some Friday home games as the team celebrates the 30th anniversary of the franchise’s inaugural season — and talked with pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. on an variety of topics.
