About midway through the Miami Marlins’ FanFest on Saturday at loanDepot park, Jeff Conine had an announcement to make.

“I’m coming out of retirement!” Conine, known as Mr. Marlin, said to the crowd which prompted a rousing round of applause.

OK. Maybe that wasn’t it. Conine, 56 and now a special assistant to Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman, said it would take “an act of God” to get back on a baseball field.

The real announcement, however, did get its share of applause.

The Marlins on Saturday announced that they will have Flashback Fridays at every Friday home game this season as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise’s inaugural season.

And yes, that means the teal jerseys are back — but there’s a slight caveat on that right now.

The Marlins at the moment plan to wear the throwbacks — pinstripe teal uniforms, helmets and caps — for at least five of their 13 Friday home games on the schedule. The jerseys are pegged as limited-use jerseys that will be used in addition to their other four jerseys — white, black, gray and Sugar Kings “City Connect” jerseys that debuted in 2021. The team applied in November to use the teal jersey for the Flashback Fridays and got approval last month.

The exact Fridays the Marlins will wear teal — and when merchandise will be available for the public to buy — will be announced at a later date.

Miami last wore the teal uniforms during the 2018 season for a weekend series against the San Diego Padres to commemorate the organization’s 25th anniversary.

The Flashback Fridays will also include appearances from Marlins alumni and a memorabilia museum that will be located on the concourse level of the ballpark. Game balls will also have a special logo.

“Moving forward, we’re going to do a lot better glorifying this franchise and celebrating what we’ve done over 30 years,” Conine said. “I think this year is going to be a great kickoff point. We’re going to do a lot of stuff.”

About 18,000 people attended FanFest on Saturday, according to the Marlins. The five-hour event at the ballpark featured question-and-answer sessions with players, autograph and photo opportunities and various games and other activities.
