The Miami Marlins played three close games against the San Francisco Giants to begin the 2022 season, going 1-2 in a series against the defending NL West champions with each contest decided by one run.

Record aside, how much — positive and negative — could we have learned about this Marlins team over the course of three games? That’s tough to tell. A better judgment will be made as the sample size gets larger.

Until then, Miami Herald Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez give their initial takeaways on the team on the latest episode of Fish Bytes. They also look ahead to Miami’s series against the Los Angeles Angels to cap this season-opening road trip before playing their home opener Thursday at loanDepot park against the Philadelphia Phillies.

A note: The podcast was recorded Sunday night, prior to the start of the Angels series.
