A busy first week of spring training for the Miami Marlins ended with a relatively big splash signing.

The Marlins signed Jorge Soler to a three-year, $36 million deal that adds yet another impact bat to the lineup — a priority for the team this offseason.

It wasn’t the Nick Castellanos or Kyle Schwarber deal that a section of fans wanted, but it could be a deal in the end that has an overall benefit for the Marlins.

On the latest episode of Fish Bytes, Miami Herald Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez break down the Soler signing and what it means for the Marlins in the short- and long-terms. They also take a look at other key topics around camp after the first week — and with just two and a half weeks until Opening Day on April 8.
