Revised Marlins schedule is out. Here’s when they make up home games vs Braves and Rangers
Major League Baseball on Wednesday announced its revised schedule for the 2022 regular season to accommodate the first two series of the season that were postponed due to MLB’s lockout.
For the Miami Marlins, the revision provides some time crunches on the back half of their schedule.
Miami had seven home games postponed — four against the Atlanta Braves and three against the Texas Rangers.
Three of the Braves games will be tacked onto the end of the schedule and played Oct. 3-5 at loanDepot park. The games on Oct. 3 and 4 will start at 6:40 p.m. No time has been announced for the Oct. 5 game. The fourth will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Aug. 13, with Game 1 starting at 1:10 p.m. and Game 2 at 7:10 p.m.
The Rangers games? That’s where things got complicated. The Marlins and Rangers were only supposed to meet for that three-game series on April 4-6 to close out Miami’s first homestand of the season.
Instead of placing that series at the end of Miami’s schedule, those games will be made up with a single game on July 21 and a doubleheader on Sept. 12
The July 21 game, set for a 1:10 p.m. first pitch, will be the Marlins’ first game after the All-Star Break and precedes a seven-game road trip against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. With that, Miami will now play 14 consecutive games to open up the second half of its schedule.
The Sept. 12 doubleheader, with game times set for 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m., is being played on what was originally an off day in the middle of a Miami homestand. With those two games inserted, the Marlins now will play 17 games in 16 days from Sept. 6-21 with no off days in that stretch.
Also of note: All of Miami’s Sunday home games will now be played at 1:40 p.m.
