The Miami Marlins on Wednesday announced a slew of internal promotions in their baseball operations department.

The biggest of them: Adrian Lorenzo has been named the organization’s senior director of international operations.

He replaces Fernando Seguignol as the top person overseeing international operations inside the organization. Seguignol was the team’s director of international operations from Nov. 2017 until this September, when the organization relieved him of his duties but had hoped to reassign him elsewhere inside the baseball operations department. Seguignol instead chose to leave.

Lorenzo is entering his fourth season with the Marlins. Prior to this promotion, he served as the director of baseball operations in 2021 and was a special assistant to baseball operations and scouting before that where he oversaw various aspects of the professional scouting and international scouting departments.

His career in baseball operations began with the Boston Red Sox, where he worked from 2013-2018 in roles that included included stints as the coordinator of international scouting and assistant director for international scouting.

The announcement of Lorenzo’s promotion comes at a fitting time: The next international signing period starts Saturday.
