Marlins FanFest is on Saturday and free to the public. Here’s what you need to know.
Baseball season is right around the corner, with spring training just a week away and the Major League Baseball season beginning in earnest on March 26.
And on Saturday, the final weekend before pitchers and catchers report, the Miami Marlins will hold their annual FanFest at Marlins Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event and parking is complementary, but fans have to reserve their ticket at marlins.com/FanFest to attend.
Every player from the Marlins’ 40-man roster, and the 13 prospects taking part in the club’s Captains Camp in Jupiter are expected to be in attendance.
That means this will be the first opportunity for fans to meet the nine new players the Marlins acquired in the offseason who will be competing to crack the Opening Day roster, including outfielders Corey Dickerson and Matt Joyce; infielder Jonathan Villar; first baseman Jesus Aguilar; catcher Francisco Cervelli; and pitchers Yimi Garcia, Sterling Sharp, Brandon Kintzler and Stephen Tarpley.
Names to know from the Captains Camp players: the team’s top four picks from the 2019 draft in JJ Bleday, Kameron Misner, Nasim Nunez and Peyton Burdick; Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr.; and 2017 first-round pick Trevor Rogers.
The full list of events going on during the four-hour event include:
▪ Multiple ways to interact with players, including a batting cage experience, kids news conference with players in The 5th Base, and playing dominoes, Giant Jenga and Connect 4 with players.
▪ Behind-the-scenes access to the Marlins clubhouse and dugout
▪ Photo opportunities with the 1997 and 2003 World Series Trophies.
▪ A virtual home run derby, interactive catch-at-the-wall experience, a steal home challenge and a dunk tank.
▪ Kids have the chance to create their own baseball card photo, participate in a Lil’ Sluggers T-ball field and a mini Home Run Derby Field and a host of other activities in The 5th Base, located on the West Plaza of the stadium.
▪ For the adults, the Marlins will have a BeerFest from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a Food & Wine event from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. both on the Legends Level. Each is $15.
