Miami Marlins

Derek Jeter could be voted into the hall of fame unanimously. Here’s how to watch.

Barring something massively unforeseen, Miami Marlins CEO and former New York Yankees star shortstop will be voted into the Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

The results will be announced on MLB Network at some point in the 6 p.m. hour, with interviews by those voted in to follow shortly after the announcement.

To be inducted, a player needs to appear on at least 75 percent of ballots.

Jeter, 45, has the chance to be the second player to be voted into the hall unanimously after former teammate Mariano Rivera accomplished the feat last year.

For his 20-year career, all with the Yankees, Jeter posted a .310 batting average, 3,465 hits, 260 home runs and 1,311 RBI. He had at least a .300 batting average and 10 home runs in 12 seasons. He won five World Series, was named the MVP of the 2000 World Series and was a 14-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger.

Nonroster invites

The Marlins on Tuesday announced 14 more non-roster invites to spring training, which begins Feb. 12 when pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter.

Among the highlights: 2019 first-round pick JJ Bleday, left-handed pitchers Braxton Garrett and Trevor Rogers, and switch-pitcher Pat Venditte, who was initially reported earlier this month to have signed a minor-league deal with the team.

Bleday, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Vanderbilt, hit .257 with three home runs, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored in 38 games with Class A Advanced Jupiter to open his professional baseball career.

Garrett and Rogers, the Marlins’ first-round picks in 2016 and 2017 respectively, had breakout seasons in 2019 and finished the season in Double A Jacksonville.

Garrett, who missed the 2018 season due to injury, posted a 3.54 ERA in 21 starts, striking out 119 batters in 106 2/3 innings and holding opponents to a .235 batting average.

Rogers had a 2.90 ERA in 23 starts, striking out 150 batters over 136 1/3 innings while also holding opponents to a .235 batting average.

Venditte, 34, has played in 54 career games since making his debut in 2015. His career stats: A 2-2 record, a 5.03 ERA and 53 strikeouts against 28 walks in 68 innings. Opponents have hit .237 against him.

He made two appearances for the San Francisco Giants in 2019, allowing six runs in 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. He spent the bulk of the season in the Giants’ minor-league system and sat out for close to two months while his wife Erin recovered from a brain hemorrhage.

The rest of the invitees: left-handed pitches Dan Castano, Dylan Lee and Alex Vesia; right-handed pitchers Ryan Cook and Tommy Eveld; infielders Eddy Alvaez and Jose Devers; and outfielders Jerar Encarnacion, Victor Victor Mesa and Brian Miller.

They join nine other non-roster invites who were announced in December.

Fanatics partnership

The Marlins on Monday announced a 10-year retail partnership with Fanatics.

According to a release sent out by the team, the deal “will create a seamless online and in-ballpark retail experience, while boosting the Marlins’ ability to continue providing unique apparel that is authentic to Miami. Starting this season, Fanatics and Nike, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) new on-field uniform provider, will be providing a significantly expanded selection of authentic collection apparel and fan gear for the team. The products will be readily available across the team’s official online store and all Marlins’ retail locations, which will be re-imagined as part of the new deal.”

“Partnering with Fanatics, the industry leader in retail for sports licensed merchandise, will deliver a first-class shopping experience for our fans,” said Miami Marlins chief revenue officer Adam Jones. “The Fanatics partnership builds on our commitment to enhance the ballpark experience and invest in the cost of the fan experience – through ticket, concession, parking and now merchandise prices. We look forward to working with Fanatics on delivering the best service for both our local and international fanbase and continuing to use retail products as an extension of our Miami Marlins brand.”
