High School Recruiting

As their high school careers near the end, two Aquinas stars have their eyes on a state title

As they slipped on their black and gold Under Armour All-America Game jerseys on Tuesday, two of St. Thomas Aquinas’ top football players came to the realization that their high school careers are slowly coming to an end.

That just made Marcus Rosemy and Marcus Dumervil hungrier to finish this season on a high note before becoming part of the next group of Raiders to take their talents to Power 5 schools with hopes of making it to the NFL.

“Just keep winning,” said Dumervil, a four-star offensive lineman who is ranked as Florida’s 17th-best player and No. 96 in the country in the 2020 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

They have three more games to win — starting Friday against Delray Atlantic — if they want to take home their first Class 7A state title since the 2016 season.

“It was a great experience, but that wasn’t my state championship,” said Dumervil, who was a freshman and played in just three games during that 2016 title run. “This year, it would be ours. Winning that would mean way more.”

They’ve done a good job putting themselves in position to contend for that title. St. Thomas Aquinas is 11-0 heading into its Region 4-7A final and completed its first undefeated regular season since 2010.

Rosemy, a Georgia Bulldogs commit and the No. 35 overall player in this year’s recruiting cycle, has 330 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 19 catches in seven games this year.

Dumervil, still uncommitted but has his share of Power 5 schools pushing for him, is part of an offensive line that has helped the Raiders offense rack up 3,754 yards and score 53 touchdowns.

“It’s starting to sink in that my high school career is almost over and I’m getting ready for college,” Rosemy said. “I just want to make the most of what I have left before I go off and open the next chapter of my life.”

That next chapter would unofficially start on Jan. 2, when they play in the Under Armour All-America Game at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. Rosemy and Dumervil are two of 103 players to be selected to play in the game.

Miami Central’s Henry Gray, Norland’s Issiah Walker, Deerfield Beach’s Jaylan Knighton and Carol City’s Thiau Jones-Bell were also selected to participate.
