The Cougars scored twice in the third quarter to stay undefeated and top the Eagles, 21-3, Friday night at Tropical Park. Killian will face Belen in the regional semifinal next Friday at Tropical Park.
With 7:43 to play in the first half, Southwest’s Antonio Garcia connected on a 32-yard field goal. The Eagles (8-3) led 3-0 at halftime.
Midway through the third, Killian (11-0) scored on a 13-yard catch by Nicholas Lopez from Antwan Collier. On the following possession, sophomore Bentavious Thompson scored on a 5-yard run. Thompson scored again in the fourth on a 49-yard run.
“During the second half, Jaquan Johnson talked to me and felt I was not running hard enough,” Thompson said.
Thompson finished the game with 164 yards, which put him over 1,000 on the season, making him the first Killian player to top 1,000 rushing yards since Dolphins tailback Lamar Miller.
Deundre Pickett-White led Southwest with 127 passing yards and 88 rushing yards.
