Southridge tops Coral Reef with second-half rally

Southridge quarterback Jerry Drakar threw three touchdown passes in the third quarter to rally his Spartans from a sloppy first half and spoil Coral Reef's homecoming 26-6 Thursday night at Harris Field.

Southridge coach Don McKnight inserted Drakar into the game in favor of Shawn Chandler after a first half that saw the Spartans (5-2, 2-0) only leading 7-6 over the Barracudas (1-7, 0-3). Drakar went 6 for 9 for 141 yards.

Junior Freddie Pinder caught two touchdown passes, one from Drakar and another from Chandler on Southridge's opening drive. Malik Spatcher caught four passes for 105 yards.

Chandler was carted off the field midway through the fourth quarter when he sustained an apparent neck injury on a run near the goal line. He was taken to Homestead Hospital.

Jawon Hamilton had 161 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for Coral Reef.
