Justice Dean’s interception return touchdown seals victory for Champagnat Catholic
Justice Dean’s 25-yard interception return touchdown in the third quarter finished Keys Gate in Champagnat Catholic’s 23-6 victory Thursday at Southridge.
Despite the lopsided victory, the Lions left points on the field with multiple goal line turnovers.
“We get on the goal line and fumble twice,” Lions coach Mike Tunsil said. “I’m definitely not happy with this. We should have scored 40 points. We have to get back in practice Monday and get better.”
The Lions (5-1) got on the board early with two first quarter Kato Nelson touchdown tosses to Paris Manyou and Darnell Salomon. But the Knights (1-5) outscored the Lions 6-3 in the second quarter on Aaron Ortiz’s 35-yard interception return to make the score 16-6 at halftime. Dean’s third quarter interception return was the final score of the game.
A penalty ridden second half accounted for most of the 240 combined penalty yards in the game.
