Hialeah Educational Academy baseball standout Jaden Lao is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Lao, a freshman, struck out six and pitched 6 1/3 innings to help the Bulldogs beat Monsignor Pace 5-4 and win the District 14-3A championship.
Hialeah Educational fell in the regional quarterfinals 4-0 to Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian on Wednesday to finish its season 11-16.
Lao finished the season with a 1.97 ERA, throwing a team-high 39 innings and striking out 33.
AIE Charter softball’s Alexa Garofalo, Palmetto flag football’s Sami Anes and Southwest baseball’s Sami Anes rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
