Killian baseball standout Kendry Blanco is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Blanco, a junior, scored the lone run, had a hit, a stolen base and then pitched the final two shutout innings, striking out four to pick up a save for the Cougars in their upset win over defending state champion Stoneman Douglas on April 4. He also went 2 for 4 with a home run in a win over Coral Gables on April 2.
On the season, Blanco is hitting .333 with two doubles, one home run, six RBI and 13 runs scored. On the mound, he has a 1.00 ERA over seven innings in five appearances.
Belen Jesuit boys’ track and field’s Marcelo Mantecon, Coral Reef baseball’s Dylan Quinzada and Edison flag football’s Mikayla Miller rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
